THE IMAGINARY CITY OF FORMOSA - Serie of illustrations for fictional world

INDIAN INK, NIBS AND BRUSHES OVER PAPER.

This city appeared in the second graphic novel of Galicia and became a real chalenge not only in terms of narrative but mostly because the high level of ink technical performance. 

The originals are A3 and, forgive me my proud, are gorgeous!!

The neighborhood of the old docks. Such a nice place. You see people dancing there at the Fiesta.

The long ink process. Lots of fun, but also patience.

The Music Tree. The tree that amplifies the sounds. Heart of Formosa and main stage to the annual carnaval. The scene has more than 130 characters.

During the drawing and inking process, the city itself sugests histories. A house here, a kid playing there... While I draw, my imagination responds to each curve, line that appears. And then, what is just a drawing becomes full of life and stories, most of all that will never appear, but helps me to understand this world.

Formosa's first drawing. Until then, I had no idea what the city was like. After the drawing, not only its geography, but its entire history emerged in my consciousness.
